Why I Created Our Heavyweight Hoodies: My Personal Story

I didn’t create our Ultra-Heavy Hoodies because heavyweight clothing was having a moment. I created them while I was going through a period of terrible anxiety.

At that time, I found that heavier clothing felt calming to me. I wanted something substantial that I could pull on when everything felt like too much—something roomy, comforting and easy to disappear into for a while.

Why the hood is so huge

The oversized hood was completely deliberate. Sometimes I just wanted to hide away from the noise and the world around me. Pulling up a genuinely huge hood gave me a little bit of private space, without having to explain anything to anyone.

The simplest way I can describe the whole hoodie is that it feels like wearing a hug. It isn’t a medical product or a treatment, and I would never promise that clothing will affect everyone in the same way. This is simply my personal experience: wearing one helped me feel more settled during a very difficult time.

Two different kinds of comfort

I wanted both versions to feel properly substantial, but they have slightly different personalities:

• The Original Ultra-Heavy Hoodie is 460gsm and made from 100% cotton loopback terry. It feels structured, weighty and breathable, without a fluffy lining.
• The Deluxe Ultra-Heavy Hoodie is 500gsm with a soft brushed lining. It feels warmer, softer and even more cocoon-like.

Both have the same oversized unisex shape, long sleeves and extra-large hood. The Original is the one to choose if you prefer a cooler, structured cotton feel. The Deluxe is for anyone who wants the softest and warmest version.

From something I needed to something we share

What began as something I personally needed has become one of the most meaningful parts of Refuse to Conform. Customers often describe their hoodies as spacious, snug and comforting. One customer wrote:

“The best quality weighed hoodie we’ve ever found… Snug, safe, the hoodie is perfect!”

Every person’s experience is different, but it means a great deal to know that something created during one of my hardest periods now brings everyday comfort to other people too.

These are heavyweight fashion hoodies, not medically weighted garments. They were inspired by my own experience and made for anyone who loves oversized clothing, substantial fabric and a hood big enough to hide in.
